David O'Brien
>>Where do I live?
Cave Creek, AZ which is a suburb in the north part of Phoenix. Our winters are now a balmy 65 degrees and our summers are a warm 115 degrees - - but it is a dry heat!
>>Are you married? Single? Secretly a cult member? What have you been up to all these years?
I am married to Kathi (Robinson) who has been with me (or tolerated me) since our senior year in high school (she went to Yorkwood). We stayed together and have lived in Chicago and Milwaukee until 1999 when I was transfered to Arizona. We have three sons: Brendan who is 16 and our twin boys Sean and Connor are 13. Our oldest is a competitive soccer player who takes us around the country with his club team and he plays for the Western Region Olympic Development team. Our twins are great fun and love football, golf and their friends.
Kathi and I spent the last eight years caring for my parents who lived near us in Arizona. My Dad passed in 2005 and my Mom passed in February of this year. We are blessed with a great church, great friends and a business that keeps us both really busy. My business allows me to travel to many places around the world and I try and take the family as often as we can coordinate the schedules.
>>What do you do for a living?
I am Vice President of a training and consulting company that specializes in leadership development and human behavior assessment. I have been in the training/consulting business since 1990 and in 2003 got an opportunity to partner with a great man who wanted an exit strategy. Since then I have led our firm and helped him find more time for golf. Today we operate in 35 states and 16 countries.
My wife Kathi leads our accounting team and keeps me on target. We enjoy the support of a great team and find it hard to believe that we get to make our living by helping people grow and develop.
In my spare time I follow my sons to sports events or play golf with them.
>>Last time in Monmouth?
My parents moved to Galesburg in 1986 and then Phoenix in 1999. I think we were back in 1996 but it has been a long time for sure.
>>How do you explain Zippers to people?
Had forgotten that was the name until I saw the question. I told my boys about it and they got quite a laugh. I don't know that I would know how to explain it.
>>Favorite movie?
Several - - "The Shawshank Redemption" for sure, "Gone in 60 Seconds" for the cars, "The Italian Job" for the same reason and "Cousins" because it reminds Kathi and I of the area where we lived in Wisconsin.
